Prague is a fascinating city with historical monuments and breathtaking architecture. But in spring it is even more magical than ever. As the trees and flowers come to life, there's nothing better than exploring Prague's gardens and parks, where you're guaranteed to relax and disconnect from everyday worries. Here are some tips on the most beautiful green places you may not have heard of.
Prague Castle is a "must see" place in Prague that no visitor should miss. But did you know that its grounds are home to many beautiful gardens? Most of them lie on the southern slope directly below the castle itself.
Just a 10-minute walk from our Old Royal Post hotel, Vojan Gardens are located. You probably wouldn't expect to find them near the Malostranská metro stop, in the very centre of the city. Behind the high wall, however, there is an oasis of complete tranquillity. Perhaps it is also because it is probably the oldest monastery garden in Prague.
If gardens are too small for you, venture further out of the centre. One of the largest and most beautiful parks in Prague, Stromovka is ideal for strolling in any season. Its history dates back to the 13th century, when it was founded as a hunting ground for King Přemysl Otakar II. Today it is a popular place for picnics, sports activities and relaxation.
Another famous place is Petřín Hill. In addition to offering unforgettable views of Prague, Kinský Garden is located on its southern slope. In the Middle Ages there was a vineyard on its site, in the 1930s the garden was landscaped in the English style. You can also visit the Kinský Summer Palace with the National Museum exhibition.
And if you want to spend a day in the countryside, but still in Prague, you won't be disappointed by the places where locals enjoy their free time. You won't be disappointed by Wild Šárka or Prokopské Valley. Thanks to Prague's transport, you can visit these pieces of unspoilt nature within a few dozen minutes from the city centre.
